What are some bridal shower games that aren't cheesy?
Short answer
The least cheesy bridal shower games skip props and forced skits and get guests talking about the bride and each other. A one-phone pass-the-phone game does that with nothing to buy or print. Pass the Phone has no bridal prompts, so it brings the mood, not the theme: warm, funny questions that guests answer by picking who fits.

Bridal shower games turn cheesy when they ask guests to perform or to fill in paper forms. Better ones share a few traits: they are quick, they work for a mixed-age room, they need no props, and they let people say something kind or funny about the bride and about each other. A game that has everyone calling out names across the room does that in a few minutes.
A quick test for any shower game: can a guest who arrives late join in without a rulebook, and does it still work if half the room does not know the other half? Passing a phone around a circle passes both tests, because the only rule is read it, pick someone, hand it over.
What to know before you plan around it. Pass the Phone, the app we make, is a general party game, not a bridal one. It has no bridal prompts, so the bride will not see her name in the questions and guests pick among the people actually in the circle. A game takes 3 to 8 players, so with a bigger shower play with the bride's table or run two phones. Choose Friends & Family for a mixed-age crowd: it is the tamer free mode, and 40 of its 200 prompts are warm close-friend ones, such as "Give it to whoever you'd call the moment your world fell apart". Party Starter includes Wild and Embarrassing prompts about exes and flirting that the app cannot filter out, and in season it adds an English seasonal pack, such as Halloween prompts from 1 October to 7 November.
10 warm, funny prompts from the app
- Pass the phone to whoever always makes a bad day feel a little lighter
- Hand it to the one whose laugh you catch every single time
- This one's for the kindest heart in the room
- Pass it to whoever the group feels incomplete without
- Slide it to the one whose smile can quietly turn a whole room around
- Hand it to whoever could cheer up the saddest person in any room
- This one's for whoever makes ordinary Tuesdays feel a little special
- Give it to whoever makes you believe people are mostly good
- Give it to whoever you'd cast as a Disney character, they've already got the energy
- Pass the phone to whoever should be the lead in the movie about this friend group
Setup is short. Open the app, choose Friends & Family, add the names of the guests at one table (3 to 8) and pick 10 prompts for a first game. The app picks who starts at random, so the bride may or may not open.
Then it plays itself. The holder reads the prompt aloud, picks the guest it fits, and the app tells the group to pass the phone to her. When the last prompt is done, a reveal screen shows who picked whom and a summary shows who got picked most. Guests who do not use apps are fine: only one phone is involved, and the person holding it reads aloud.
A tie-in that avoids the cheese: let the bride read the end-of-game summary aloud. It turns the result into a toast rather than a score.

Is Pass the Phone a bridal shower game?
Not specifically. It is a general party game with no bridal or wedding prompts. It works at a shower because the prompts are warm and funny and guests answer them by picking each other, but nothing in it is themed to the bride.
How many guests can play?
Each game takes 3 to 8 players. At a larger shower, play with the bride's table or run two games on two phones at the same time.
What if some guests are older or not into phone games?
Only one phone is in play, and the person holding it reads the prompt aloud. Other guests do not need an app, an account or a phone. Friends & Family keeps the tone warm, and because 40 of its 200 prompts are close-friend ones it suits guests who already know each other well.
Do I need to pay?
Downloading the app is free and Friends & Family is a free mode. The free modes show ads, and Remove Ads is a separate purchase.
